Trudy Silver (born 1953) is an American pianist and composer. ==Life== Born and raised in New Britain, Connecticut, she started playing piano at age 7 often practicing on her Aunt Lillian's seven-foot Mason & Hamlin concert grand piano.〔McNally, Owen. The Courant, May 29, 2011.〕 Silver studied composition and music appreciation with Armin Loos before moving to Berkley, California in January 1971. It was while in California she first heard Sun Ra, Alice Coltrane Ravi Shankar and Alice Coltrane in a live concert at the University of California and she subsequently taught herself chords and jazz harmony. She returned to Connecticut in June 1971 and subsequently started playing in local bands.〔Encyclopedia of Jazz Musicians. Jazz.com.〕 In 1979 she moved to Montreal and, as member of the Montreal Musicians' Union worked extensively in Montreal and around Quebec. In 1981 Silver moved to New York where she currently resides. She co-found the 5C Cultural Center in the Lower Eastside of Manhattan with her husband, Bruce Morris.
